Polyamory and Families
Let’s face it, whether you are navigating polyamory with kids, coming out to family, building a polycule, or anything in between, you’ve probably run into some pushback. There are so many ways polyamory and family interact with each other, so much nuance, and it can be really challenging. This is an opportunity to be seen, heard and to learn more about how to navigate these spaces.
Information is fantastic, being able to apply that information into tangible actions is even better. All of our speakers will be sharing ways in which you can transfer this information and apply it to your (poly) family.
When it comes to family, “it takes a village” is not just an expression. Whether your poly family dynamic includes children, or not, we all need support. Come meet people and join community. We all need our tribe.
The topic of polyamory and families is extremely broad. And it’s something that gets brought up in the poly and non monogamous communities a lot. It’s also one of the most used points of criticism of polyamory and non monogamy. Polyamory directly challenges the family structure that most of us have grown up with and the narrative the society tells us is “best.”
On top of that, ‘family’ as a concept is used as a signifier of ‘goodness.’ If someone is a ‘family person’ they garner a lot of respect. If you’re a ‘good mom’, ‘good dad’, ‘good parent’ then there are many societal expectations and ‘rules’ for what that means. Plus, if you haven’t noticed, any time that people can use the slogan ‘for the kids’ to prove that they are right about something, they will because it works! Everyone wants things to be ‘good for the kids.’
However, as people in the polyamorous and non monogamous communities have come to know, there are SO MANY ways that family structure can exist that foster happy, healthy, supportive environments for everyone! No matter what pushback we may receive, there are many cases to prove that having a nontraditional family structure does not mean that there is a less supportive or unhealthy environment.
But that pushback can be REALLY loud and make us doubt ourselves, especially when considering entering into the “poly world.”
The speakers we have on this recording are people who have personally experienced these challenges and obstacles AND have created what family means to them. They know firsthand what it takes to build family structures that work for them and everyone involved.
This is a place to be seen, heard, understood and to learn from others. This is also an opportunity to get more involved! If you need more support, here it is. If you need a space to be validated, here it is. If you need to get some of your questions answered, this is the place!
Throughout the day your host, Elizabeth Cunningham, will be interviewing all of our speakers on a broad range of topics within polyamory and family AND you will have the opportunity to ask our speakers direct questions!
There will be at least six question and answer sections throughout the day!

“I took notes the entire time. This was so helpful.”
“I have never felt so seen.”
“I’ve been dealing with x and I cannot tell you how valuable today was.”
We’ve been so fortunate to have amazing humans, people with incredible experience both personally and professionally agree to come be interviewed and bring information to you that normally you’d have to scour the internet for or pay larger sums of money for.
It speaks volumes about the dedication of people in the polyamorous and non monogamous communities who just want everyone to have happy and healthy relationships.
Oftentimes when speakers agree to come to these events they say something like, “I just want to help educate people. If they could have it easier than it was for me, it’s totally worth it.”
